Saturday, May 19 - Motif #1 Day 5k Road Race and Festival

The Motif #1 Day 5k road race is an annual race to raise money for health and wellness programs at the Rockport Public Schools. The race was born from the desire to improve the health and wellness of our students and community through exercise. This is a special year for the race as we have teamed up with the Motif #1 Day Festival. The race and festival will be on May 19th, 2012 with the race being held in the morning followed by a great day of festivities in downtown Rockport.

Saturday, May 19 - Artists' Plein Air Day, Cogswell's Grant, Essex

Artists and painters are invited to Cogswell's Grant for a day of plein air painting. Join fellow artists from all over the North Shore to paint beautiful vistas including the Essex River and the Great Marsh, farm fields and landscapes, and our eighteenth-century historic house and barns. Free beverages and snacks will be available during the day. Artists can tour the museum, which features one of the country's most celebrated collections of American folk art.

Our Annual Long Hill Plant Sale has become a local tradition. Join us for this hands-on program to harvest honey and beeswax as we learn about the honeybee, and how humans and honeybees can support one another. Learn how the products of the honey bee are used in the curriculum at Cape Ann Waldorf School and hear about their new hives at Moraine Farm! Participants will take home a little bear filled with honey.

Explore English-inspired interiors, ornate woodcarvings, and sterling silver bathroom fixtures on this tour of the Crane's summer "cottage." A 1920's David Adler masterpiece, this elegant country house provided a gracious summer home for Richard T. Crane, Jr., a Chicago plumbing magnate, and his family. As late spring becomes early summer, it means one thing: turtle time! Join us for an afternoon of exploring our wetlands in search of these fascinating reptiles. We'll visit areas where turtles like to nest in hopes of finding some eggs and, with a little luck, get an up-close look at a painted turtle. We'll conclude with a trip to the Rockery to see if we can summon our resident snapping turtle, Godzilla.

Summer Programs for Youth at the Ipswich YMCA

NEW!! Official USTA Junior Team Tennis for ages 8-12.  Co-ed teams compete in boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.  Participants must remain age eligible through August 31.  Players need to become USTA members, cost is $185 per person.  Practice at the Ipswich High School courts on Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11am starting June 18.  Match days vary against local towns, best team records advance into USTA summer league playoffs.  League runs June 18-July 30, State Championships on August 7.  Register by May 31st.

Kindermusik Adventure Camps begin May 29th for five weeks except for Tell me a Tale, a one week camp in July.

The last day of our school-year open gym hours was on Thursday, May 10. We are planning to be closed for several weeks to do some renovations before summer starts.

Summer open gym hours are on Wednesday nights only, 6-9pm, currently scheduled to start on June 6 and continue through August 15. We may be offering some additional climbing hours on Saturdays or other week nights if there is enough interest - stay tuned!
